In June 2025, the Wireless Power Technology Conference and Expo (WPTCE 2025) took place in Rome, featuring a dedicated workshop on “European Space-based Wireless Power Transfer.”
The session explored emerging European technologies for wireless power transfer in space exploration, addressing the increasing energy demand in orbit and on Earth.
REMPOWER took part in this workshop, presenting its progress toward sub-THz wireless energy transmission and advanced rectenna technologies.
During the session, the project showcased its key objectives, including:
- The development of high-efficiency, high-power rectification solutions.
- The design of a flexible, lightweight 100 GHz modular rectenna.
- The exploration of new methods for non-linear rectifier and rectenna characterization.
- The improvement of scalability and cost-effectiveness in design and manufacturing processes.
These advancements represent an important step toward the realization of next-generation space-based and terrestrial wireless power transfer systems, supporting Europe’s strategic ambitions in sustainable energy and communication technologies.
The workshop also featured presentations from other EIC-funded projects, including rePowerSiC, which focuses on developing high-efficiency Laser Power Converters (LPCs) using silicon carbide, and APACE, centered on bio-inspired solar-pumped laser technologies for space applications.
REMPOWER’s participation highlighted the project’s active role in shaping the future of wireless power transfer and strengthening collaborations within the European research community.
